Cheeseburger Day, Smile and Say Cheese!

As maybe you already know from our last article, we will celebrate Cheeseburger Day on the 18th of September! It’s a special day dedicated to cheeseburgers 😄 Do you know why there is this celebration? And why are Americans so crazy about it? Let’s find out more with us!

The invention of the Cheeseburger is an Accident!

Funny thing, how cheeseburger found is known by an accident by someone called Lionel Sternberger (even his last name rhyme with burger 😂)! He is working in his father’s sandwich shop, The Rite Spot in Pasadena, California, the USA in 1926. One day, Lionel was having an experiment, he dropped a slice of American cheese on a sizzling hamburger. He found it to be tasty so he shared the idea with his dad who liked it too. And, thus, the cheeseburger was born.

“Cheeseburger” Name Exist 8 Years Later 😲

Even though it was found in 1926, the name Cheeseburger was established 8 years later, which is 1934! Pretty a long time to develop this name and known widely. The first actual sandwich to be marketed using the word “cheeseburger” was at Kaelin’s restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky, the USA in 1934.

But the following year, in 1935, the term “cheeseburger” was actually trademarked in another place, at the Humpty Dumpty Drive-in in Denver, Colorado. It seems that people all over the United States have taken credit for the invention of the cheeseburger!

The Largest Cheeseburger Ever

Do you know that there is the largest Cheeseburger? This record was set in 2012 by Minnesota’s Black Bear Casino, smashing the previous record of 881 pounds (400 kg). The largest cheeseburger ever made weighed 2,014 pounds (914 kg). It is said to have included “60 pounds (27 kg) of bacon, 50 pounds (23 kg) of lettuce, 50 pounds (23 kg) of sliced onions, 40 pounds (18 kg) of pickles, and 40 pounds (18 kg) of cheese.”
